How to Deep Clean Your Kitchen Sink (Plus a Free Printable Checklist!)

If your kitchen sink has lost its shine or you’ve been noticing lingering odors, it might be time for a deep clean. I know how easy it is to wipe things down quickly and move on — but every now and then, your sink deserves a little extra love. The good news? It’s a simple reset that can make your whole kitchen feel fresher.

Why Deep Clean Your Sink?

Why Deep Clean Your Sink?

The kitchen sink is one of the hardest-working areas in our homes, yet it’s often overlooked during daily cleaning. A true deep clean helps remove grime, food buildup, and bacteria — and it makes a big difference in how your kitchen looks and smells.

Supplies You’ll Need

Step 1 – Clear the Sink

Remove all dishes, food debris, and sink accessories so you’re working with a clean space.

Step 2 – Sprinkle Baking Soda

Generously cover the sink basin with baking soda. Gently scrub with a soft sponge or soft brush, especially around the drain and edges.

Step 3 – Disinfect with Vinegar

Spray or pour white vinegar over the baking soda. It will fizz! Let it sit for 3–5 minutes, then rinse with hot water. **Note: If your sink has some stuck-on stains, use your soft sponge to scrub before rinsing, during this step.

Step 4 – Deodorize with Lemon & Salt

Cut a lemon in half and dip it in coarse salt. Rub it over the entire sink surface to remove stains and odors.

Step 5 – Clean the Faucet & Handles

Use the lemon or a baking soda paste and an old toothbrush to scrub around tight spots and crevices.

Step 6 – Rinse & Dry

Rinse thoroughly with hot water and dry with a microfiber cloth.

Step 7 – Add Shine (Optional)

Buff a drop of olive oil onto a soft cloth and lightly polish the stainless steel to make it sparkle.

If you look closely, you can see a brown ring about mid-way up from the residue. Yuck! My sink desperately needed a deep clean!!!
Look at her shine!
